Web/API interface

A web interface (the eStruxture Cloud control panel) provides point-and-click control over every aspect of your cloud. The eStruxture Cloud's open, RESTful API offers programmatic control of every control panel function.

Layered management capabilities

Services and resources can be managed at a high level (e.g., physical servers or groups of servers (zones)) or in detail for specific virtual appliances. This enables individual appliances to be switched on and off, resized, redeployed, migrated and much more. You can give end users access to these functions, or control them yourself.

High Availability, self-healing & automatic failover

The eStruxture Cloud features extremely robust failover mechanisms, with intelligent monitoring of cloud services and nodes, and automatic service restoration in case of failure. If a physical server fails, the eStruxture Cloud will automatically relocate the appliances it hosts and reroute application data.


Virtual servers, smart servers and bare metal servers are known collectively as appliances. Appliances host end user applications and give them access to virtualized hardware resources, or direct access to the hardware depending on the type of appliance.

Virtual Servers (VS)

The eStruxture Cloud supports a growing range of hypervisors for virtual servers, including Xen 3, Xen 4, KVM and VMware. Using hardware virtualization/paravirtualization techniques, the eStruxture Cloud enables multiple flavors or 32- and 64-bit Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems and applications to be hosted simultaneously. Virtual servers have their own root accounts which can be controlled, configured and managed by their owners.

Smart Servers (SS)

Smart servers are based on a thin KVM virtualization layer which enables automated provisioning, scaling and failover, but using pass-through technology to provide the high performance of a dedicated server.

Bare metal servers (BS)

Bare metal servers start life as a smart server so they can also be provisioned automatically with an image of choice across your cloud deployment. Once provisioned they are rebooted automatically at which point their OS and apps are running directly on the hardware with no virtualization layer.

Data Stores

Data Stores can use almost any storage configuration you are likely to need: RAID, LVM, ATAoE, iSCSI and Fibre. They can be based on a traditional hardware SAN, software SAN or the eStruxture Cloud's own integrated storage system. Bare metal servers use local storage, and the eStruxture Cloud also supports local storage for VPS-style cloud services.


The eStruxture Cloud enables automatic periodic data backup, as well as emergency backup, as part of a disaster recovery system. The eStruxture Cloud controls the physical and virtual routing of SANs, which enables seamless SAN failover management. This ensures system reliability and enterprise-class resilience for your cloud hosting service. Incremental backup is also supported via integration with Bacula4Hosts.
