Talking eStruxture in Hawaii: Highlights from our PTC’19 Trip

February 02, 2019

Last week, our team traveled to sunny Hawaii to attend PTC’19, the Pacific Rim’s premier telecommunications conference. We had a busy schedule that included our pre-event cocktail reception, an interview with JSA TV and our CEO’s participation on a panel examining the technologies driving the next wave of edge-capable data centers. Overall, our team had a great time meeting with potential partners, listening to their needs and telling our story.

Throughout the conference, we experienced a lot of interest in our pan-Canadian model of hyperscale colocation, cloud, network and managed services. Our western Canadian presence quickly became a focal point of many of our discussions, particularly on Day 1, when we announced the addition of a second data center in Vancouver, British Columbia. With over 54,000 square feet of usable space for our clients’ mission-critical infrastructure, our new VAN-2 facility is designed to scale with the ever-increasing needs of our customers. Of course, PTC’19 was not just about our expansion in Western Canada; we also wanted to highlight the growing digital hub that is Montreal, our home market.

On Sunday, January 20, we hosted a cocktail reception celebrating Quebec as a global connectivity hub. Atop the rooftop terrace of the Honolulu Tommy Bahama, our team mingled with industry decision-makers, sharing the many benefits of establishing a presence in our Montreal data centers. As the second-largest city in Canada, one of Montreal’s key advantages is its proximity to major metro markets like New York City, Boston, Ottawa, and Toronto. As well, according to JLL, the city offers the lowest power costs for data center operations in North America. With three interconnected data centers in Montreal, we are well positioned to provide mission-critical infrastructure and customer-centric support to enterprises across a variety of verticals. Check out our video slideshow from our cocktail reception.

As always, our CEO, Todd Coleman, played a vital role in promoting eStruxture to the PTC’19 audience. With his JSA TV interview, Mr. Coleman stressed our mission to continue offering our customers more options in terms of data centers as well as access to new and enhanced connectivity with cloud and other service providers. Providing flexibility and a growing portfolio of solutions, while still focusing on our core data center competencies, is going to be key to our success in 2019.  Watch the full interview here.

On his PTC’19 panel, Mr. Coleman also discussed how the edge is continuing to expand its boundaries. While the industry has yet to see the widespread popularization of containerized micro-modular data centers, hyperscale cloud providers continue seeking improved QoS by deploying availability zones outside of Tier 1 markets. As a result, we believe secondary markets in Canada will see much activity throughout 2019, and we’re prepared to deliver, especially with a robust channel partners program coming out in Q2 of this year.

As we return to the office, we’re eager to continue all the exciting conversations we had in Hawaii. In fact, we invite you to get to know us even more by reading our new e-book on bicoastal colocation in Canada.
